A ‘Varna’cular Blog

Image
Before I start this blog, I would like to pay my respect to Sri Narayana Guru , whose birthday happened to fall on the day I started writing this blog. Sri Narayana Guru was a spiritual leader and great social reformer, who led a major role in the revolt against the casteism and social inequalities in Kerala, a state which was once referred by Swami Vivekananda as a ‘Lunatic Asylum’ Swami Vivekananda’s remark about the God’s Own Country came after he toured the princely state as part of his expedition throughout India in search of a topic he could speak in the Parliament of the World's Religions in California. Horrified by the Caste System practiced in Kerala he said “ Was there ever a sillier thing before in the world than what I saw in Malabar? The poor ‘Paraiah’ is not allowed to pass through the same street as the high caste man, but if he changes his name to hodge-podge English name or to a Mohamedan name, it is alright. What inference would you draw except that these M...

An 'Anna'rmed Protest

Image
Dedicate it to my dear friends who are quite annoyed with the numerous updates and videos posted in the Social Networking websites regarding the ongoing protest by the Anna team. Their comments questioning the selfish motive behind the protesters, supporters and the broadcasters motivated me to write this blog. Here I am, trying to compare two movements that took place in our country, one which happened 6 decades ago and the other, which is ongoing. I was taught in my school that ‘standard’ freedom fighters of our country like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose fought for the freedom of our country. And I also happened to read that India got its current ‘shape’ (Not considering the POK and Chinese Invasion) because of the struggle of one man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who negotiated with the princely states to merge with India. So, the question is, what is the ‘India’ they referring to in the ‘War of Indian Independence’ if the country was born afte...

The Longest Journey of My Life

Ever since I have created this blog, I have been thinking hard about what should be my next post. Should I write about some personalities? Or some game I recently watched or should it be something about technology? Then I thought it wouldn’t be a great idea to meddle with these topics. I am sure I will end up screwing it. Then a sudden thought evoked in me. Why don’t I write something about myself? Some event which happened in my life or some trouble I jumped into. Well if its trouble then I would have plenty of stories to say. Tada!!! That’s it. The troubles I jumped into!! But… there are plenty… Which one should I mention first!! Hmmm… A tough call. I thought why don’t I start with the most embarrassing moment in my life!! Yes. That is the one. That’s one thing which I have shared with every other person I met. Biggest foolishness I can ever commit, the one which I always commit. My college days were nothing special. I was just another normal kid who went to classes, listened to the ...

A beginer's note

Well. Here I go. Name: Dilip Krishnan When was I born? : In late 80s when school kids were enjoying their summer holidays!! What do I do? : Anything that doesn't bore me. Why am I blogging? : I have no clue. I am right now in office located somewhere in heart of the silicon city of India, working in a grave yard shift with no better work. Frustrated and pissed off staring at the facebook home page. I feel like shouting out my frustrations right now. But unfortunately people call it unprofessional and un parliamentary (Though that is the only thing they do out there!!!). Thought of silently shouting out my emotions through the medium which is quite popular and I am quite familiar with! What is this blog gonna be? : Trust me I have no clue. But from what I understood about me all these years (Yeah!! I kinda did!!) whatever I write in here (If I do!!) might be a bit funny (ha ha.. well that was funny), sarcastic (yeah! 100%) and true (hmmm.. really??). So lets see.. if I get time and ...
